A Brief starts as a door on your website.

This one is Alder & Coast’s. Keep scrolling to watch a customer open it.

02How does it work?

Watch a question become a page.

Alder & Coast is an example agency. This is its website, on a phone like yours.

It opens with an answer.

03Isn’t this just a chatbot?

A chatbot gives them a thread. A Brief gives them a page.

Greetings, emoji, a link and a follow-up. The fact is in there somewhere.

A chatbot answers “When’s your next open morning?” with greetings, emoji, a link and follow-ups. A Brief keeps only the answer and sets it as a page: a headline, the question, the fact, a photograph and a booking widget.

04Is every answer just text?

Not every answer is a paragraph.

Dates, prices and choices become widgets, in your colours, from your files.

Every business here is made up. In a real Brief, every figure comes from your files.

05What’s it like on a phone?

Built for the pocket.

On a phone, the next question waits under your thumb. Every answer is its own page.

Type your own question. It heads a new page.

The real Pocket edition, rendered frame by frame. Halcyon Coffee is made up.

06Will it look like us?

It looks like you. Not like us.

Learned from your own website: your colours, type, photos and voice.

07What do we get out of it?

What they ask is what they want.

Every question, kept.

An example of the Desk for a made-up agency. A week of 326 questions is sorted into topics: price guides 88, up 18 per cent; open homes 74; selling costs 52; rentals 41; and off-market 23, three times last week. “Do you sell off-market?” was asked 23 times and isn’t answered on the website, so the Desk drafts an answer to approve. Three people asking buyer’s questions are listed to call, with what each asked. Each month it is set as a business intelligence report in the agency’s own brand. It leads with something the Brief noticed, here that one in four readers who asked for a price guide went on to ask what their own home is worth, then gives the month’s 1,268 questions and the 69 per cent that arrived after hours.
